Hyperhidrosis or excess sweating is a very common condition which can cause terrible inconvenience and embarrassment to the many people who suffer from the condition. Axillary hyperhidrosis effects the underarm region and causes excessive sweating in the area even without heat or exercise but other parts of the body can also be affected. Clients with hyperhidrosis often report suffering both physical and social consequences because of the condition. Heavy perspiration can cause bad smells and staining to clothing, and sadly it can negatively affect self-esteem and confidence. Anxiety about the condition can itself worsen the effects and many clients report going to great lengths to conceal it, some even avoiding social situations altogether.
Happily, hyperhidrosis is very treatable. A series of injections into the affected area block the chemicals which are responsible for excess perspiration. The results are fast, with most patients reporting a reduction in perspiration by more than 80% in less than a week. The effects of the injection typically last between 6 and 8 months and you can return for a repeat treatment as soon as you begin to notice the perspiration returning.
The treatment time is approximately 30 minutes. After a thorough consultation, a number of botox injections for excess sweating will be administered into the area to be treated, targeting the nerves which supply the sweat glands. Our highly trained clinician will use a very fine needle so you will only experience very mild discomfort during the procedure. A local anaesthetic is generally not required for hyperhidrosis injections, with the exception of the palms of the hands which can be quite sensitive.
